Abstract
The small size of Singapore Island and its low relief mean that differences in climate and vegetation are not important in determining the soil patterns that occur in that Island. The action of a humid tropical climate over a long period of time, without accessions of minerals, has resulted in intensive weatering and leaching which procedure uniformly low levels of nutrient. However, the physica properties of the soils are different and can be related to the nature of the parent rock. Data on the soil patterns, sand, silt, clay mineralogy, and physical and chemical prperties of the soils are used to identify the soils processes currently operating in this tropical environment.
