In the past ten years, numerous studies on the occurring criteria, flowing characteristics and depositing processes of debris flow have been carried out; both in the laboratory and in field observation at Mt. Sakurashima and Mt. Yake (Japan). Although various significant results have been obtained, some details of the kinetic mechanisms still need further investigacion. The characteristics of the front of the debris flow is one of these significant problems.
