- AbstractIndividual tree basal area growth is related to crown surface area and relative size in Pinus Taeda Plantations. Basal area growth increases linearly with crown surface area. The intercept of the basal area growth relationship increases linearly with site index, while the slope decreases linearly with stand basal area per hectare. Crown surface area is estimated from crown length and width. Equations for estimating crown length and width from tree and stand characteristics are presented.
