- AbstractThe principal factors controlling establishment, mortality and growth of seedlings in a selection stand are related to seed crop, seedbed properties and competition of larger trees and ground vegetation. A data basis from permanent plots representing Norway spruce stands in transitional stages from uneven-aged to single tree selection has been established for modelling regeneration and growth. The emphasis is on studying, explaining and modelling the large termporal and spatial varations in the number of established and surviving seedlings inside and between stands. Some preliminary results and their implications to modelling are introduced in the paper.
