- AbstractIn many tree species, difficulties in performing controlled crosses prohibit the performance of classical Mendelian analysis. In angiospermous species, the lack of sexually differentiated tissue rules out an alternative type of analysis similar to the endosperm (megagametophyte) analysis commonly applied in conifers. In the present paper, a method of genetic analysis of enzyme phenotypes is proposed which utilizes zymograms of single trees and their progenies from open pollination (or of females of other organisms and their progeny in cases of multiple paternity). The two modes of gene action most commonly encountered in enzyme expression, namely codominiance in the absence and presence of a (recessive) null allele, are considered. Analysis requires no other assumptions than those also underlying classical Mendelian analysis.
