Several morphological, physiological and biochemical properties of the P and S intersterility groups of Heterobasidion annosum were investigated. Distinct differences between the groups were observed in the morphology of the fruit bodies, size of conidia, isoenzyme banding patterns, serological properties and in the antagonistic reaction against Phlebiopsis gigantea.
