Dense natural regeneration of Sitka spruce can be undesirable and has proved difficult to kill with foliar application of herbicides to trees 0.3 to 1.6 m tall. This Note describes a range of treatments applied and the levels of kill achieved. Application of glyphosate to freshly-cut stumps gives good control of regrowth. Imazapyr gave good control at 6 l ha-1 as a foliar spray but has not yet been given approval for forest use.
