Lichens in the state Salzburg (Austria) and in the country Berchtesgadener Land (Bavaria, Federal Republik of Germany) - observed species and their distribution. In the province of Salzburg (Austria) mapping studies on the present day distribution of lichens were carried out in the field. More than 20 000 records of 1267 lichen species, parasitic lichens and lichenicolous fungi are filed. These results and floristic data from systematic and taxonomic literature concerning the province of Salzburg are presented as a checklist and as distribution maps. In the checklist the vertical distribution, the substrate and the frequency of the most lichen species are listed. In the case of rare lichens the exact locality is given. Compared with the lichen flora of SAUTER (1872) some species could not be verified, e.g. Lobaria amplissima, Sticta limbata, St. wrightii, Stereocaulon tomentosum and Mycoporum elabens. In the Northern Kalk-Alps many of epiphytic macrolichens are threatened by air pollution and acid rain. A list of rare and threatened lichens ("Rote Liste") is presented.
