The paper gives a concentrated overview over the most actual figures and statistical records, presented by the Office of National Inventories. Tabular overview is given on the utilization of the French territory, the amount of forests, species distribution and standing timber volumes, forest properties, health problems of French forests including pollution problems, the increase of forest areas, annual increment, harvested timber quantities, timber markets and employment offered by forest and timber industries. All figures refer to the year of 1999, and most tables also give an average over the last 10 years. The presented statistical records are briefly commented, evolution and tendencies of modern French forestry are discussed.
