In this chapter, we synthesize the current state of knowledge on agricultural measures that could be implemented in cropland to increase SCS in upland mineral soils. Following a brief overview of the principles of SCS, we synthesize the results from reviews and meta-analyses quantifying the effect of different agricultural management practices at field scale and illustrate these with examples familiar to us. We also discuss uncertainties associated with the effect size of these measures and problems with upscaling data obtained in field studies to regional or global scale.
