Die Hauptfunktionen von Sperrenstaffelungen liegen in der Stabilisierung des Bachbetts sowie in der Konsolidierung der Einhänge. Das Verlandungsgefälle zwischen den Sperren ändert sich je nach dem Geschiebeanteil im Abfluss und strebt ein Ausgleichsgefälle an. Um diesen Prozess quantifizierbar zu machen bzw. den Trend im Geschiebeauftrag und -abtrag zu untersuchen, wurden Modellversuche unter Variation der Parameter Sperrenabstand und -höhe, Geschiebezusammensetzung und volumetrischer Feststoffkonzentration durchgeführt. Es zeigt sich, dass man durch den Bau von Sperrenstaffelungen Umlagerungsstrecken schaffen kann die ausgleichend
auf den Feststofftransport wirken ohne die Sedimentkonnektivität zu unterbrechen.

The main function of a series of check dams is to stabilize the torrential channel and to consolidate the adjacent slopes. The deposition angle of the sediments between the structures changes according to the sediment rate and tends to an equilibrium gradient. To quantify resp. to investigate the trend of sediment deposition and erosion within the series of check dams, laboratory experiments were carried out varying check dam spacing and height, grain size distribution and volumetric sediment concentration. The construction of a series of check dams represents a natural balancing process, reducing sediment transport by high bedload rates and offers the possibility to remobilize these sediments during lower rates and therefore sustaining the sediment connectivity.
