- AbstractNorway spruce (Picea abies /L./ Karst.) in Czechia is cultivated under nearly all site conditions from floodplain forests to the 8th forest vegetation zone (Piceetum) in the mountains. Diversified natural conditions require the differentiation of silvicultural methods to meet management goals. Long-term experiments in Norway spruce are often used to analyse thinning effect on total biomass and growth response. Data from long-term observations are also a basis for predicting and modelling of Norway spruce stands development. Presented study is based on the general evaluation of 24 experimental series established in 50s and 60s (18 'older' series) compared with the data from the other ones funded in 70s and 80s (IUFRO experiment CZ-13 Vitkov and CZ-14 Machov and experiment Polom). Presented analyses confirmed no significant effect of thinning started at the age of 30 50 years on basal area and
diameter of dominant trees. On the other hand, thinning started at the younger age, effected studied parameters significantly.
