The German forest regions west of the Oder/Neisse line (excluding the Saarland) have been divided into 29 growth areas. For each growth area the size in hectares is given of the present stocked area as well as of all the idle land apt for reforestation, all figures according to the inventory of 1937. From the sustained cutting rates of the forests in public ownership as they were in 1937 the sustained yield per hectare has been figured out and this figure, expressed as "tons of dry substance", is called the "full yield per hectare" for the total land of each growth area that is capable of producing timber. Then the present allowable sustained sutting rate has been worked out for the management districts of that part of Germany that was outlined above. Areas which were clear-cut at the end of 1948 are not included nor any forest area of the ownership category smaller than 3 hectares in the Federal Republic and smaller than 5 hectares in the Russion Zone.
