It seems impossible to enter the complicated growing conditions of mixed stands without studying more accurately the dimensions of the tree crowns and their changes. This knowledge is essential for figuring out the actual space that a tree covers, for judging the behacior of various species in mixed stands in this regard and finally for determination of the future yield potential. According to the results of the works carried out by Burger and Badoux the increment per M2 of projected crown circumference seems to be an appropriate measure to signify how the trees participate in the area and the space of the stand and to provide a bsis to determine the future yield in mixed stands. Relations between projected crown circumference, stand area and stand space are considered.
