Abstract
The German Land Reform after World War II is based in the three Western Zones on Occupation Legislation, in the Soviet Zone on a communistic revolution subsequently legalized by provincial regulations and afterwards by the Basic Law. In the US and French Zones the Land Reform mainly aimed at the creation of farmland for settlers, in the British Zone it was of a more political nature (to break the power of the big land owners). In the Soviet Zone it had a punishing character for all land owners owing more than 100 Hektar, who where ecpropriated without compensation and exiled. In the US and French Zone (with the exception of Land Rhineland-Palatinate) the forests are liable to give up land only where the soil is suitable for agricutlure. In the British Zone and in Rhineland-Palatinate also the forests are subject to the Land Reform.
