Abstract
The now effected evaluation of the experimental plot laid out in 1912 in the so-called Stiftswald near Kaiserslautern by Prof. Münch revealed a type of Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga taxifolia) which gives highest yields and is resistant to needlecast: the Snoqualmie Douglas Fir, a green Douglas Fir originating from the State of Washington, from the Western slope of the Cascades. The production of the Snoqualimie Douglas Fir may be characterized by the figures for the stand after thinning, which was carried out in 1951 in the then 41 years old stand. The resistance to needlecast was evident from the fact that in the experimental plot all adjacent provenances of Douglas Fir were more or less heavily attacked by the fungi Rhabdocline pseudotsugae Syd. and Phaecoryptopus gäumanni Rohde which caused mor or less damage and the partly or entire dying away of the trees, weheas the Snoqualmie Douglas Fir, although standing in the midst of the diseased stands, remained free from fungus-attack.
