In April 1970 it will be 50 years since the forestry chairs were entablished at Freiburg. A forestry professorship hat existed as early as from 1797 to 1792, but only since 1920 had forestry teaching been continuous. The states Baden und Wurttemberg had previously provided forestry training at Karlsruhe and Tübingen/Hohenheim respectively. The merger and establishment of forestry chairs at Freiburg was agreed between the states in 1920. These forestry chairs and supplementary natural science chairs became part of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Freiburg. In 1936, the forestry and supplementary natural sciences chairs were made a separate Department of Forestry, which in March 1970 was transformed into a Forestry Faculty.
