Title of the paper: Planting trials with Balsam poplar. 22 trials planatations with clonal tacamahaca, aigeiros and leuce poplars were measured 1973/74. 7 of 49 balsam poplar clones were particulary successful: Muhle-Larsen, Androscoggin, Rochester, Oxford, Brühl 3,7 and 8. Very good were also clones 77/56, 76/56, Max 4 und 5, 6/69, 359/56(8) and 5/69 but the test has not been long and comprehensive enough to give recommendations. Balsam poplars are superior in all but 2 plots. Grey poplars are better adapted to maritime climate than Balsam poplars. On optimum riparian plain sites Black poplars surpass Balsam poplars. On optimum riparian plain sites Black poplars surpass Balsam poplars. The trial showed that more extensive material is needed in Balsam poplar breeding programmes.
