- AbstractNowadays, tree growth simulators are preferred in forest modelling. The models are able to predict forest development regarding wide range of input parameters (SILVA, BWIN, MOSES, PROGNAUS, SIBYLA). Climate data are usually one of them and they allow estimate impact of climate change to forest growth and production. Recently climate change is evident by planet warming and drying. Greenhouse gasses and their reduction by wood sequestration are modeled nowadays, but questions of water outgo by tree transpiration models are not well investigated till now. The paper presents methodology of the transpiration model and its software implementation. The model is based on tree growth simulator SIBYLA developed on Technical University Zvolen. The growth simulator was already successfully applied for impact of climate change to Slovak forest development. The transpiration model is based on measurements of tree transpiration flow on permanent research plots in Slovakia with detailed measurements of tree parameters (regarding tree co-ordinates and crown parameters) and climate parameters. The model is statistically oriented. The model estimates amount of transpired water by tree crown surface, mean daily temperature in vegetation season, number days of vegetation season, and number of rainy days during vegetation season. Climatic scenarios and SIBYLA growth prognosis produce amount of transpired water at forest stand level. The paper provides examples of model usage. Stand models in different vegetation zones and elevation levels are used for mentioned purposes. Changing management concepts are applied and impact to forest transpiration is discussed.
