The author of this paper, Agenda 21 project manager Gerald Falkner, discusses the interrelations of Agenda 21 activities (Agenda 21 is a programme run by the United Nations for sustainable development), the program "Ländliche Entwicklung" (rural development) 2007 - 2013, and the strategies of the Styrian government as related to the Styrian districts Hartberg, Weiz and Fürstenfeld. Further funding is only mentioned if relevant for the programs mentioned above. The main aim is to provide insight and understanding for local and regional Agenda 21 processes and how to implement those programs on other local levels. The author tries to provide both positive and critical aspects to enhance and promote further regional development plans in order to create perspectives for ways out of a regional crisis.
