Abstract
The pinewood nematode (PWN), Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, is transferred by an insect vector to pine trees. In countries, where the PWN occurs, Monochamus spp. plays the most important role as vector of the nematode. Within the context of the EU-Project "PHRAME" M. galloprovincialis pistor, M. sutor and M. sartor were collected in different areas of Austria, cultured and reared in the lab. Lifespan, breeding and emerging behaviour as well as maturation feeding were studied for all three Monochamus species. The consequences from these results for the control measures are discussed.
