There are stated the reasons for not using statistical methods for the recent Forest Survey (Waldstandsaufnahme) in Austria. Essentially the absence of the correlations between the elements to gather from aerial photographs and those which are to be known only by direct forest mensuration prevented the practice of all well qualified methods used in USA for example. There are discussed the future researchers and scientific problems of be solved by the Forstliche Bundesversuchsanstalt of Austria.
