Abstract
The Monitor08 workshop "complementing monitoring methods and simulation techniques" brought an overview of different monitoring and simulation techniques. The impulse presentations outlined possibilities but also restrictions of recent methods. The discussion session outlined ambivalent opinions in the discussing group: some of the contributions brought up clear skepticism agaisnt the current developments speaking of a "technological overkill"; others clearly mentioned the options of new data quality in the near future. Discussion also stressed the importance of a clear monitoring and simulation concept in order to use the new technology in an efficient way.
