The investigatiom were made on trial plots laid out in different zones of industrial air poliution. The zones were determined on the basis of one year's pollution measurements. The sample trees and the wood volume on the trial plots were determined by Hartig's method, and the volume of the felled sample trees was determined by Huber's sectional formula. After the trees were felled, disks were taken for stem analysis. The investigations showed that parallel to the 35-50% reduction in the number of needles, there was a reduction in the ages of the needles from2-3 to 1-2years,witha simultaneous reduction in the site class of the Stands by 2 classes. This is a result of the diameter increment being reduced by 46-60%. If the reduction in needle numbers does not exceed 35%, the reduction in diameter increment is scarcely 25%. The values vary according to the site category, the concentration of the pollutants and the duration of their effect.
