- AbstractAt some stations of the Drau- and Gail-area in the southern East Alps extreme amounts of daily precipitation generally are followed by floods of a not extreme proportion. On the other hand weather conditions with far spread precipitations often cause much higher flooding. The average maximum amounts of the daily rainfall show a linear correlation to the average amounts of the annual precipitation of the stations. A further correlation also exists between the mean specific flood discharge and the mean annual total precipitation caused primarily by the intensity and duration of the rainfall, by the relief and geological factors of the catchment areas at different levels.
