- AbstractWeather events causing damages are reported fro 292 out of 9131 days. Places at the northern border of the Alps were attacked at 137 days, places in the Alps north of the crest-line at 192 days, places in the relative small area south of this crest-line at 29 days. The report contains events of heavy precipitation causing landslips and floods (U, 109 days), inundations (HW, 37 days), hailstorms (H, 60 days), flashes of lightning (B, 52 days), gale-damages (St, 53 days), avalanches (Law, 44 days), heavy snowfall (Sch, 26 days), forest fire (W, 15 days), and other events as sheet ice ((U), 9 days). The weather situations of all these days were classified according to a system of 16 situations given by F. Lauscher. There are especially three weather situations producing damages in the Federal Country of Salzburg: Meridional troughs, low pressure over Central Europe and depressions over the British isles with advances of cold air in the top level causing unstable equilibrium over the valleys. Local thunderstorms can be observed even at high pressure situations causing damages particularly by flashes of lightning. Outside the Alps most of the gales are found in situations of "Westwetter" or in squall-lines. There is no close relation between avalanches and specific weather situations. Avalanches are often produced by ski-tourists passing slopes at fine weather suddenly arisen. The comprehensive material may be used for further analysis and methodical improving of weather-forecasts.
