Studying site conditions of different areas planted with ashtrees, it is shown that the soil conditions are eminently for the growth of young ashtrees. Integrated soil quality found out and being described by site mapping is often not sufficient especially in cases when the limits are reached. The vertical gradient in soil chemistry is pointed out as important factor. Before the young plant roots can reach high base saturation and pH-values in the deeper soil they are perished by bad conditions in the upper layer. In this paper some chemical soil criteria are discussed to find the right decision for planting or natural regeneration of ashtrees.
