The paper is summarizing the most common methods of direct or indirect mapping of labile forest site conditions and its possible utilisation. The demand for the characterization of site conditions grows by the extent that actual conditions differ from the long-term natural site potential. The mapping of actual site conditions is suitable for condition monitoring too. The procedure of the humus form mapping should increasingly consider geo-botanical features, without limiting the representation of the chemically oriented upper soil conditions. A combined procedure provides a wide range of multi-user functions e.g. for biotope mapping.
