Abstract
The job market for forest graduates from Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences has been changed since the middle of the 1970ies. the classic career at the State Forest Administrations forms no longer more a realistic perspective for a large number of jub beginners. However, more forest students than ever before are recorded at each study site and different analysis of their later career show that most of them find a very successful start in their job life. For raising the sucess of forest graduates on a wider forest job market, an improved marketing of their specific qualities by the Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences and a general characterization of the explicit profile of forest graduates is necessary. With look on the actual development of "Bologna-conform" study courses a clear definition of the qualities of the bachelors and master's degree together with potential job providers is indispensable in order to raise their acceptance in the practice and to identify corresponding career possibilities. Also the sector training represents one of the increasing challenges for a modern forest education. At last, the vocation forster shows a noticeable future potential with regard on the ongoing development of the forest-wood sector. Nevertheless, this demands for a more job market-oriented definition of the special qualities of forest graduates.
