The association of Forest ecology and geobotany can look back on 50 years of working in postwar Germany. After its first foundation in the 1928, its annulment in 1942, it was refounded in 1954 as an all-German association. Our community continued to pursue its way consistently. The aspect that nowadays nature-oriented silviculture is based on ecological ideas and that forest management is oriented on ecosystems and not timber plantation is substantially based on the work of the AFSV. In annually returning conferences the association, whose member circle consists for instance in equal parts of scientists and practical men, strives to maintain exchange of experience and to transfer the results of the scientific findings into the practice. Everything suggests to enrich the initiated development of nature-oriented forests by ecological and geobotanical results also in future.
