Forest-based industries are one of the most important branches of the Austrian economy. They include the paper and the fiberboard industry, which expect double-digit growth of wood consumtion over the next five years. Subsequently, the demand for wood will increase, especially in the grades relevant for the generation of ecoenergy. New legislation will put the supply situation at risk and endanger reasonable price levels. A new Impulse Programme might be able to ease some of the pressure.
