- AbstractThe assessment of groundwater recharge in the sandy soil of the Great Hungarian Plain requires detailed knowledge of infiltration processes. Near Kecskemet, storm events were simulated at four lysimeters (60, 110, 160, and 260 cm deep). During the summer and autumn of 1996, four tracing experiments were performed at intervals of approximately one month. Each time, 100 l of traced water were poured onton the top of the lysimeters within a few minutes, thus simulating a storm with a precipitation depth of 10 cm. ßH, 18O, NaCl and nitrate were used as tracers. In order to reduce the number of parameters, the lysimeters were covered with plastic foils, thus elimination not only the influence of evaporation, but also the infiltration of additional precipitation water. The work is in progress. Initial results indicate a relatively quick response of the outflow to irrigation, a high amount of adhesive water in the percolation water, and no retardation of the nitrate. Up to now, there has been no indication of a typical "more-velocities system", which can be found in more fine-grained soils (macro and micro pores).
