The paper deals with the history of the glass-works in Slovenia and its interdependence with the existing forestry during the centuries. Wood, iron ore and water power were the main imortant ressources in the country and the forest area had to cover the different needs (wooden and non-wooden products) of people and industry. Also the number of glass works increased during the centuries and they gained a high economic value mainly in the 17th and 18th century. Several measures were taken into account to reduce the damage on forest land by over - utilization. In the second half of the 19th century the reafforestation of the former clear cut-areas was ordered by law and the increasing in price of timber was at least the main reason for the shut down of glass works in Slovenia.
