- AbstractPhytosociological research was carried out in 1997 and 2000 in the Pri Bútl'avke Nature Reserve (founded in 1993 on the area of 21,5 ha) within the volcanic Polana Mts. Eight relevés were recorded using methods of Zürich-Montpellier school. Studied area is occupied by natural stands with character close to the primeval forest. Most of communities can be classified as the mesotrophic herb rich fir-beech forests of Dentario glandulosae-Fagetum association with the Galium odoratum dominance in herb layer. Communities of the scree beech-maple forests (Lunario-Aceretum) with the Lunaria rediviva dominance in E1 are wide spread too, because of complicated relief segmentation by the volcanic reefs. Special scree community of Tilio-Acerion alliance was also detected on the big andesite blocks in the top part of reserve. The great importance of the Pri Bútl'avke Nature Reserve for above-mentioned communities protection was stated, according to comparison with the occurrence of observed cmunities within other protected areas of Pol'ana Mts. However, for the efficient protection of forest communities with all stages of their cyclic development was recommended to enlarge relatively small area of this reserve.
