- AbstractThe analyses of digitl data which are derived from computeraided numerical calculations are a helpful tool in risk assessment and crisis management as well as in planning. The intention of this paper is, to show how Geographic Information Systems build the periphery of the three-dimensional avalanche simulation model SAMOS (Snow Avalanche Modell and Simulation). SAMOS forms the core (secondary sector) of the system of integration-sectors to analyse natural hazards in mountain regions. The preparation of the input data (primary sector) and the analyses of the simulation data results (teritary sector) are built within the frame of Geographical Information Systems. These main results of the three-dimensional simulation with SAMOS are: i) peak pressures from the powder snow part and the dense flow part of a dry avlanche at any point and and at any time of the model calculation, ii) peak pressure of the powder snow part in any height of the three-dimensional grid-layers, iii) flow velocities of powder and dense flow part, iv) deposition depth of the dense flow part and v) height peak pressure profiles at any point of the avalanche. All these results many be analysed and visualised in Geographic Information Systems how usual (maps, tables, etc.) or digital (data bases, Intra- and/or Internet access, etc.) which is called to be the quartery sector of the integration system. The possibilities offered by Intra- and Internetapplications will become more important in the future of risk-assessment and crisis-management specially as well as in the planning layer generally. Also here the symbiosis of numerical models with Geographical Information Systems offers a number of helpful tools for pracitcants in torrent and avalanche control.
