Due to the Single European Act of 1986 an autonomous jurisdiction of the European Community over the field of environmental protection was established. Relying on this legal basis, the EC has developed a series of activities in the area of environmental law, which after its convrsion into national regulations, will be of great importance for our national forestry as well. With the example of the EC legislation on nature- and water protection as well as waste disposal, it is shown, which impacts on national forestry could be expected and how they could be compensated by financial measures. Further actions, undertaken by the European Community in the field of environmental law, which apply to forestry al well, can be anticipated in the near future.
