- AbstractIn the Pfälzerwald plantation is the regular procedure to regenerate Pine stands. Clearfelling and site clearing normally precede the plantation. Following the principles of close-to-nature silviculture with Scots Pine natural regeneration after strip cutting was investigated since 1994/95 with two variants: Strip-wise scarification to support the development of Pine-seedlings in the mineral soil and regeneration on non-treated soils. The first results of these investigations show, that the regenerated plants on the non-treated soils did not develop homogeneously compared to the development of the pines on the investigation plots with strip-wise scarification. But even without scarification there were 8.000 plants per ha and these plants showed a better nutrition and a comparable vigour. So it seems to be possible to regenerate Scots Pine after strip cutting on Pfälzerwald sites without scarification.
