- AbstractThis paper presents the changes in the forest foliar conditions between the period 1990/91 and 1996 of trees on the same plots as those used for the survey of the crown condition (BZE and WZE subsample monitoring system). Leaves of beech and oak show, in tendency, an improvment in nutritional status whereas the needles of spruce show a distinct reduction of nutrient contens. Considering specific nutrients, beech, spruce and fir have very low contents of Phosphorous. In addition, spruce needles show in 1996 an unsatisfactory nutrition in the case of nitrogen in spite of high deposition rates of this element in general. Of all the main tree species, oak trees have the best nutritional condition in their leaves, although the crown damages are very high.
