Salix caprea is not especially good host tree for polypores and other deay fungi. Howeve, there are some species, which occur more frequently on Salix caprea than on other hosts. The commonest pathogenic polypore species are Phellinus conchatus and P. punctatus. Among the saprophytic species Polyporus varius and P. tubaeformis reach their maximum occurrences on Salix caprea. Also a small "form" of P. squamosus grows on this host. The most famous of the polypore species growing on this fairly big willow is Haploporus odorus. It is nowadays a vulnerable species in Finland. Other rare polyporus are Daedaleopsis confragosa. Skeletocutis nivea and the corticiaceous fungus Granylocystis flabelliradiata.
