Abstract
The study represents a synthesis of data published by different authors, as well as the results of our own research work concerning the lichens from the Eastern, Southern Carpathians and Apuseni Mountains. The research was carried out in forests of similar altitudes, where lichens were adapted to the characteristic climatic conditions of these altitudes. Thus, according to humidity the lichens from spruce forests are meso-hygro-airphylous, while in relation to substratum they are acidophylous. The epiphytic vegetation belongs to the sinusium with Pseudevernia furfuracea and Usnea barbata, the terricose ones to Cladina mitis, Cladonia cenotea and Cladonia coniocraea. Foliose and fruticose lichens are dominant (35-70%), while crustose ones are reduced (12-30%). The study also includees the results of our research on the lichen biomass and their content in biogene elements, as well as their use in pollution biomonitoring with heavy metals and artificial radionuclids.
