The aim of this study was to analyse stem growth and volume increment of sample trees in European fir stands situated far beyond the natural range of fir. The object of investigations were two stands of fir trees 80-90 years old found in the forest of the Baltic Natural Region in Osusznica Forest Inspectorate. Growth and volume increment analysis was carried out on the basis of 20 sample trees selected according to Urich II method. Disks for stem analysis were taken from 1m sections. It was found that breast height diameter, height and volume as well as increments of these elements for sample trees (at 5 year intervals) are comparable with and sometimes even higher than the corresponding indices in stands growing within the limits of pine natural range. No symptoms of fir withering were observed on the area under investigations.
