Abstract
In the silviculture the advantages of natural regeneration of spruce are often stressed and its application is recommended. The author estimated in years 1973-1977 the state of natural regeneration of spruce in the Karkonosze National Park and investigated the influence of the altitude upon the dynamics of this regeneration. He stated a.o. a great ability of spruce stands to create a specific microclimate, making the growth of self-sown spruces th high degree independent form the mezoclimate of the slopes. The natural regeneration was to be found in most adult spruce stands, and its silvicultural value was in general satisfactory. However these regenerations were usually not controlled. The percentage of natural regeneration of spruce in our mountains is very small. To the popularization of the natural way of managing the spruce forests may, in author's opinion, contribute an elaboration and introduction of a new instruction for the application of natural regeneration and an adequate system of education and motivation, which should effectively encourage the foresters to use it in practice. Realization of the mentioned tasks could be performed by a team consisting of the representatives of science and forest administration.
