- AbstractBetween 1884-1934, after 50 years of consistent care of growing stock, in conjunction with purposeful silvicultural utilization of natural regeneration and with little financial investment, Friedrich von Kalitsch once again achieved high productivity in his formerly over-harvested forest property. Möller's (1920) publication of von Kalitsch's management methods resulted in a furious debate on continuous forestry, which lead to numerous silvicultural investigations in Bärenthoren in the decades following. The state of knowledge in respect to the problematics of continuous forestry is under steady expansion. Bärenthoren's permanent pine forest range is a site often visited by forestry experts and plays host to many excursions, thereby greatly contributing to the idea of continuous forestry. This paper outlines property rights and site conditions, followed by a current description of the state of the forest. Silvicultural objectives are formulated on the basis of current site conditions. In conclusion, suggestions and lessons to be learned are derived from cintinuous forestry as practiced in Bärenthoren.
