- AbstractLong run planning is the initial framework for all activities within the forest enterprise. Long run planning must capture the field of forest decisions as a whole with regard to contents and time. The products of the forest enterprise as a source of income for the forest owner are supposed to be continual and sustained. Decisions of the forest enterprise are possible only in the context of sustained yield forestry. An attempt was made to come to grips with the even flow of products and services and with the preservation of assets. By means of the linear planning model an indeal state (normal forest model) is sought over several periods. The ideal state is taken instead of the result of dynamic evolution of the stands. This ideal state is measured by means of different criteria. By a systematic variation of assumptions about future goals and environmental conditions, the temporal component of goals, and the decisions needed to be taken in reaching these goals, can be better determined. The long run analysis establishes the decision field for the medium run plan. By means of a second "periodic" linear model, the optimal temporal sequence of management practices is determined with the medium run model.
