The paper summarises the results of ion deposition measurements in the region of Sonnblick which started in 1983 at Wurtenkees and in 1987 at Goldbergkees. These series are the longest of this kind in the Alps. The measured concentration values of sulphate, nitrate and ammonium of the total winter snow accumulation clearly reflect the trends of emission data over central Europe. Especially for sulphate the reduction of sulphur dioxide emissions over the eastern part of Europe can be seen very clear. Extreme outlier values in 1997 for sulphate and nitrate can not be explained yet.
