Inventory of forest decline from 1987 is the first national forest survey in Yugoslavia which includes also collecting of dendrometrical data for all country in the same time. The paper presents the results of dendrometrical evaluation of 792 tract in Slovenia and deals with the methodical work in forest survey and with the reliability of the estimates. The estimates of growing stock and numbers of trees per ha are biased because of several reasons (variable tract density moving the tracts into forest non accurate measurement of sample surface). The proposals are given for improving the next forest inventory.
