Forestry planning needs a large amount of spatially and temprally defined forest and other data. Geographic Information Systems offer the means of handling the analysis of the data needed for several management problems. The most tedious task probably is to gather and maintain uptodate the relevant data for the system. This paper suggests a way to gather the relevant data using two-phase sampling approach for combining ground truth data with multi-source and multitemporal auxiliary data. The method has already been applied but there still exists a number of statistical problems.
