To meet the increasing demand in forestry management, we have developed a simulation model as a planning and assessment aid for forestry enterprises. This paper gives an overview of the model's application, it's structure and limitations, with special attention to aspects of growth development, establishment of wood assortments and evaluation. The model is orientated towards economic aspects of forestry management and does not take into account any non-monetary uses of forest and forest regions. It simulates the possible out-comes of given management strategies, however it cannot deduce the optimal strategy from desired objectives. Base units are single trees, stands and whole forest enterprises. A first example describes an application for long-term planning in a swiss forest enterprise. A strategy is formulated and the model is used tp produce the likely biological and financial figures. As long as the objectives are not achieved, new runs on the bases of slightly changes strategies allow optimisation. The second example approximates monetary compensation in a biologically interesting forest, composed of trees grown from seedlings and regrowth on stumps. The variants "preservation of the existing foresttype" and "transformation" are simulated and compared.
