Paper identifies and defines changes occurring in many societies that could impact management and use of forest recreation areas. It also defines what those impacts might be. Forty-nine experts from 18 countries rated the likelihoods of those changes and impacts occurring by the year 2005. Results show both similar and dissimilar patterns of response among four groups of countries defined in the paper. The considerable emerging challenges to forest managers indicated by these results are discussed.
