If forest and woodworking industries really have to become humanized, drastic developments will have to take place in the designs of mantask- systems, both technically and socio-organizationally. For three situations of different degrees of mechanization suggestions for improved safety, health and well being of the workers have been developed. For the developing countries special attention is given to the development of appropriate personal protection equipment and the nutritional health status. For the moderate and highly mechanized situations special attention is given to the development of new machine systems resp. operating systems and work organizations. May these brain storming ideas about how to reach optimal working circumstances during the last decade of this century inspire ergonomists and manufacturers to the benefit of the workers in forestry and woodworking industries.
